The Fine Art of Fragrance
Ancient civilizations used plants as far back as 4,000 years for everything from flavoring foods to scenting their bath water.  Fragrance permeated the ancient world from scented oils used to adorn the body to incense burnt in homes and temples.  Cleopatra, the iconic seductress, was supposedly a big fan of Egyptian Jasmine, sultry Indian Patchouli and even Grapefruit.  As in ancient times, today perfumes still use mostly natural ingredients including essential oils gathered from flowers, fruits, and spices while others are made from synthesized oils that mimic these natural scents.

At Trilogy Laboratories, many of our products are botanical based and include flower and herb extracts and nut, seed and essential oils lending them a slight natural scent.  Most of them do not have a strong fragrance and are considered “scent free” and are wonderful “as is” or can be custom scented.  We understand the importance of aromatic experiences and offer beautiful fragrances that can be added to our products to create a unique signature scent in line with your branding.  Our Project Consultants can inform you of the products that best lend themselves to additional aroma and can guide you on selecting an aromatic, essential oil or fragrance oil.

Trilogy Laboratories offers three fragrancing options:

Aromatics

Natural aromatic extracts are physically extracted from a single plant genus/species. This means that natural aromatic cucumber extract will contain only volatiles physically extracted from cucumber. They are useful for imparting a natural aroma to a product or for masking cosmetic base odors without the use of fragrance.

INCI Name: Same as any botanical extract

Benefits:

  • Synthetic Fragrance Free
  • Natural
  • Botanical Benefits

 Essential Oils

These are aromatic volatile liquids distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds.  Each essential oil may consist of hundreds of different and unique chemical compounds and are highly concentrated.  The scent will dissipate after application when exposed to air and the warmth of your skin.

INCI Name: Botanical name plus “essential oil”

Benefits:

  • Synthetic Fragrance Free
  • Natural
  • Botanical Benefits

 Fragrance Oils

These are created in the lab and because they are non-volatile, the aroma is more stable and lasts much longer than the smell from essential oils or aromatics.  A natural fragrance that can be used for scent cannot be captured from all plants.  Good examples are apples and blueberries.  If you would like something to have those particular scents, a fragrance oil is a perfect solution!  At Trilogy Labs, we choose the highest quality fragrance oils that are phthalate free and range from simple single notes to rich complex blends.

INCI Name: Fragrance (Parfum)

Benefits:

  • Phthalate Free
  • Predictable and Lasting Fragrance
  • Lower Sensitivity/Allergy Inducing than Essential Oils or Aromatics

Our Fragrance Program is the perfect way to create a signature scent for your product line that is unique and captures the essence of your individual brand!  You can order samples from our wide selection of fragrance options here.
